Abstract work in metal and brightly colored paint references the urban experience of hot rodding and graffiti.
Luke Achterberg draws his inspiration from customized cars and hot-rods and the graffiti and street art that were touchstones of his childhood. Hailing from a family of welders and automobile customizers, Achterberg studied both fine art and technical welding before pursuing his Master of Fine Art degree. During his last year of graduate school he received the Outstanding Student Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture Award from the International Sculpture Center. Achterberg exhibits work throughout the United States and Switzerland. He lives and works in Lexington, KY.
